G1. Eligibility criteria

  1. Be a resident of British Columbia over the age of 16.

  2. Pay event fee (a separate fee must be paid for each category entered) $100.00. Each additional Category will be $50.00.

  3. All fee's paid after May 1, 2007 will be charge a $20.00 late entry fee.

  4. Pay $25.00 for drug testing fee. Mandatory fee.

  5. The fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

  6. All athletes are subject to drug testing and will be randomly drawn on Friday night prior to the competition.

  7. All funds payable to Fitness Edge Health Club 111 Nicol St. Nanaimo BC V9R 4T1. You may use cheque, money order, Visa, or MasterCard.

G2. Verification

  1. Competitor eligibility shall be verified by the Chief Judging Official at the registration weigh-in. Competitors shall be completely responsible for ensuring that they meet the eligibility criteria for the event.

  2. This show is a novice level entry and open to all competitors.

  3. Master athletes for men and women must be 40 years and older. Grandmaster athletes for men and women must be 50 years and older. Please bring picture ID, Drivers License, or Birth Certificate to the weigh-ins. All categories are subject to change dependant on the number of entries prior to the show.

G3. Drug Testing

  1. This is a drug-tested event. All athletes are subject to testing by urinalysis or polygraph on the day of the event. The number of tests administered depends on the number of athletes entered. Testing is performed by medical personnel and is based on IOC testing.

    A list of banned substances will be provided in your package after you send your entry form in, or you can check the website at Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the drug testing procedures please don't hesitate to call.

  2. All competitors will go through a screening process of questions and physique assessment to ensure that all competitors are natural in this competition.

    Please bring any information, drug prescription for any substance you may be using under the supervision of your doctor that may be on the banned substance list.

    You will sign a waiver allowing the screening supervisor to deny your access to the competition if drug use is suspected.

G4. Access to Backstage Areas

  1. Access of venue backstage areas shall be strictly controlled. With 100 athletes and backstage staff there is not a lot of room.

  2. Venue staff, organizer staff, sponsors, judges, and media representatives that are allowed back stage must also have a pass.

  3. Coaches are permitted but must purchase a limited amount of $20.00 backstage passes available at the competitors' meeting, or can be requested earlier and mailed to you. There will be lots of volunteers, ex-competitors to help you with posing suits, and oil and to help you pump up before going on stage.

  4. In order to respect the security we are providing for your benefit, please use loading dock entrance to get backstage. You will need your backstage pass given in your package at the weigh-ins to enter. This protects the athletes and their belongings.

G5. Registration/Weigh-In

  1. Registration/weigh-in for the Western Naturals event shall take place on Friday May 25, 2007 at the Best Western Dorchester Hotel(250-754-6835) at 6:00 pm sharp. This is the host hotel and is located beside the theatre in downtown Nanaimo, B.C. The location of the meeting room will be available at the front desk closer to the show.

  2. All competitors must attend the weigh-in and the competitors' meeting to qualify for the event unless prior arrangements have been made due to unforeseen circumstances.

  3. The registration/weigh-in will be open to the public.

  4. All competitors will have their weight checked for bodybuilding and height will be checked for fitness & figure competitors. Men and Women in bodybuilding must be in posing trunks and women/fitness & figure must bring all bikini's, one piece, and costumes and props to be approved by the head judge.

  5. All competitors, including fitness, will be required to bring your music, cued ready to play on either cassette tape or CD (preferred). Make sure your name and category is clearly marked. Your music will be mailed back to you after the competition. Make sure you have a back up copy in case of any incidentals that may occur.

  6. The chief judge will be responsible for checking that the posing attire of all competitors meets the current standards which are as follows:

    1. Men: competitors should wear trunks of a solid, non-distracting color and are clean and decent (no g-strings or women style trunks). Metallic materials such as gold or silver can be used to make up the trunks as long as they are solid. The use of padding anywhere is strictly prohibited. The trunks must cover the gluteus maximus.

    2. Women: competitors must wear a bikini of a solid, non-distracting color and are clean and decent (no g-strings) The bikini must reveal the abdominal muscles as well as the lower back. The fastenings of the bikini must be plain with no attached ornamentation. Metallic materials such as gold or silver lame can be used to make up the bikini. The use of padding anywhere in the bikini is to be used in moderation. The bikini must cover the gluteus maximus.

    3. Fitness/Figure: competitors must wear a bikini that must reveal the abdominal muscles and lower back, but must not be a g-string. The colors and fabrics are open to choice, but you do not want to take the attention away from your physique, which is what the judges are looking for. The routine rounds are open to individuality as far a costumes and themes. Use common sense as to costumes having parts that litter the stage ultimately causing delays. Please bring all costumes to weigh-ins to be checked by officials.

    4. Should an athlete subsequently appear on stage at the pre-judging or finals in attire that has not been approved by the chief judge at weigh-ins, the athlete may be penalized by the addition of points to their final score.

    5. Registration will begin with Masters and Grandmasters, Fitness, Open women bodybuilders, Figure, Open male bodybuilders (welterweight to heavyweight), and Fitness Models.

    6. Competitors shall be weighed in on a professional medical-style scale, which has been properly balanced. The scale will be of either a beam type-weighing machine, or an electronic machine graduated in kg and lbs. The scale will be positioned on a hard, flat surface.

    7. If a competitor fails to make the weight category that he/she was registered for, they will have a maximum of 2 hours to make weight. Prior to the weigh-in, the scale will be made available to competitors to check their weight. It will be located at the host hotel the morning of the weigh-ins.

    8. The competitors' numbers shall be worn on the LEFT side of the posing suit throughout the judging and the finals or the competitor may be penalized by the addition of points to their score.

    9. A competitor must compete in the weight category corresponding to his/her actual officially recorded weight.

    10. The registration/weigh-in will close 1/2 hour after the last competitor present has been processed pending any athlete trying to make their weight class.

    11. You will be able to order the video of the event, pictures, photo shoots on stage, or off stage photos, back stage passes, show tickets, extra t-shirts etc. at the same time as registration. (cheque, cash, visa, MasterCard or Money order)

G6. Penalties, Disqualifications and Suspensions

  1. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Depending on the severity of the competitor's conduct, disciplinary measures may range from a verbal warning to addition of penalty points or a disqualification from the competition.

  2. Any athlete who registers by paying their entry fee at the weigh-ins or other will be held accountable to participate in prejudging and finals.

  3. The "moon pose" will lead to immediate disqualification from the competition.

  4. Lying on the floor is banned within reason (due to oil on stage); additional points to final score will be added.

  5. Athletes who purposely pull their posing attire in such a manner so as to show the gluteus maximus to the judges or spectators may be penalized by additional points.

G7. Bearing and Deportment

  1. Competitors must not wear footwear, watches, rings (except wedding bands) bangles, pendants, chains, necklaces, earrings, wigs, distracting ornamentation, or artificial aids to the figure. Some leniency shall be permitted in the finals.

  2. Competitors must not chew gum or candy while on stage nor smoke while on stage or backstage at any time.

  3. The use of props during the prejudging or final rounds in bodybuilding is encouraged but not mandatory. The use of props for fitness competitors & figure are encouraged and should complement your theme to gain points.

  4. The excessive use of oils on the body is strictly forbidden, but some body oils, skin creams, or moisturizers may be used in moderation. No use of oil whatsoever is to be used by fitness competitors. The Chief Judge may order that excessive oil be removed.

  5. During the prejudging, the hair must be worn off the shoulders so as not to hide the musculature of the shoulders and upper back. The hair may be styled for finals. In Fitness and Figure, the hair may be worn down, but when competitors have their backs to the judges the hair must be pulled over to one side.

    1. Lightweight - up to & incl.70kg or 154 lbs

    2. Welterweight - up to & incl. 75kg or 165 lbs

    3. Middleweight - up to & incl. 81.6kg or 180 lbs

    4. Light Heavyweight - up to & incl. 90kg or 198 lbs

    5. Heavyweight - over 90kg or 198 lbs

  7. Fitness:

    1. Short Class (under 5'7")

  1. Competition Entry Fee $100.00 + GST. $25.00 of every fee goes towards prizes.

  1. The Chief Judge reserves the right to amend the number of categories in each contest. If there are less than three athletes for any given category, they will be combined with the next applicable weight division or class.
