B2. Assessment Criteria

  1. Muscularity: Well-developed, shapely muscles with lack of body fat. (Size plays a role)

  2. Definition: Muscle visibility due to lack of fat. An athlete does not need to be muscular as in definition of muscularity to be defined. Dieting alone or emaciation will not be rewarded.

  3. Proportion: Relative size of one body part to another should be present at any stage of development.

  4. Symmetry: Silhouette of left and right sides of body are similar in size, definition, and development.

  5. Shape: Genetically determined structure of the entire physique and individual muscles. This shape will lead to proportion and symmetry.

  6. Balance: Degree of development of upper body compared to lower body.

  7. Femininity: For women competitors, first and foremost, the judge bears in mind that he/she is looking at female competitors and judging for an ideal feminine physique.

B3. Prejudging Format

  1. Each class shall be called on stage in reverse numerical order starting with the highest applicable number for the preliminary assessment.

  2. All competitors will be asked to take a 1/4 turn to the right and stand in a "relaxed" position. (This is anything but relaxed, but the competitors should appear to be relaxed) The chief judge will call out 2 more 1/4 turns until all competitors are facing the front of the stage.

  3. The chief judge will then direct the competitors to the comparisons of the compulsory poses, 7 for men and 5 for women. Only 5 competitors are compared at one time, exceptions are at the discretion of the Chief Judge.

The compulsory poses are to be called out in the following order, 1) front double biceps 2) front Lat spread (men only) 3) side chest (your choice of side) 4) back double biceps 5) back lat spread (men only) 6) side triceps (your choice of side) 7) abdominal and thighs; and 8) most muscular (men only and evening show only)

  4. After the compulsory poses are complete and any comparisons are done, all competitors file off stage and follow instructions as to when to return for the finals, later that evening.

  5. Preliminary Assessment Round: The assessment shall begin with the general impressions of each individual competitor. There will be an assessment of muscular bulk, and balanced development for men and a muscular yet feminine shape consisting of an hourglass figure for women. The intent here is to quickly but accurately arrive at a general consensus as to main grouping.

  6. Free Posing Routine: The judges shall look for a display of muscular physique in an artistic and well-choreographed routine. The routines should be a series of movements that display all sides of the physique, working all major muscle groups as well as transitional poses set to a musical piece which complements the athlete.

Points may be added to competitors total for poor posing and under developed body parts. Keep in mind music should be tasteful; harsh language and profanity will not be tolerated or appreciated.

  7. Compulsory Poses: The judges shall favor the competitors with a harmonious, classic, physique. The overall shape of the various muscle groups is paramount. A detailed assessment will be compared of each muscle group between all competitors.

There may be call-outs of several competitors to be compared against one another to order to make out finer details when the placing of the athletes are close. The judges are comparing muscle shape, density, definition, and symmetry from one side to another.

B4. Finals Format

  1. Each category shall be brought on stage in numerical order and in a single line for an introduction to the audience; ie competitor #1 from Victoria . . . John Smith.

  2. Once all of the competitors in the class have been introduced, they will be directed off stage in order to prepare for their individual routines to music. At the discretion of the Chief Judge, sometimes the competitors are asked to hit one or two poses before filing off stage.

  3. In numerical order, all competitors will complete their 90-second routine.

  4. All competitors will be called back on stage for the compulsory poses.

  5. The Chief Judge will direct the competitors through the compulsory poses including the most muscular for men.

  6. The 60 second pose-down then starts; all competitors on stage rush to the front of the stage trying to out pose each other. This is for fun and to show the audience and judges what you have been working so hard for.

Now is the time to show it off and let the best competitor win. Please keep in mind how important it is to show good sportsmanship.

  7. All competitors file off stage and the top 3 are called back on in numerical order for the award ceremony. The 3rd place is announced followed by the second place and finally the winner of the class. Pictures are taken and prizes awarded.

  8. The 1st place winner is required to remain at the theatre to compete for the overall trophy at the end of the night.
